Back at it ✨ Already the changes I’ve made are clicking into place, and I am so excited! To revise, I brainstorm an overall solution, and then made a checklist of what needs to happen in each chapter to reflect that. It makes it very concrete and easy to apply. It’s a lot of work, but it’s organized 💁🏼‍♀️

This was an ✨amazing✨ reading month for me! I thoroughly loved every book except one (and honestly, I think it’s just because I’m not as interested in thrillers at the moment). Half a Soul has been on my list for almost a year, and I wish I had read it sooner! Did I cry during A Thousand Heartbeats? Yes, I did. Did I mean to? Not at all. Am I already on the companion to Wicked Fox? I absolutely am.

I didn’t plan to write a novel by hand, but here we are. This novel wants me to write the scene, then type it, then take a day off. There’s somewhere around 30k words and 22 chapters in that first notebook, and I can’t wait to see where the second one takes me.

I was hoping if I really concentrated for a week, I could get to the midpoint (which I am just ITCHING to write). That did not happen. But in a week of distress— over political violence (😣) and trying to figure out if my toddler is dropping her nap (soon, I think 😳🫠), it’s still something. And it’s still something to pour a lot of my rage into.

This is one of my favorite Shakespeare quotes: “we are such stuff as dreams are made on.” I bought this bracelet years ago, and it was the first really nice piece of jewelry I ever purchased for myself. I wore it every day when I taught, but I stopped wearing it once I had my baby. I discovered it last night when rummaging for something to wear to my husband’s work function, and it all clicked into place. Dreams are a crucial theme of Project Teeth, and rediscovering something I loved so much feels like a sign.

I’m so excited for THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL! To celebrate the release a month away, I decided to share that each story corresponds to a Taylor Swift album. I love listening to a particular album when I’m brainstorming! I find it sparks ideas and vibes, and then by the time I’m drafting, it’s just soothing to listen to. Fun fact: each major character in MOTHER MADE OF STARLIGHT has at least one song from folklore assigned to them, and I embedded little Easter eggs by using a key word from the lyrics in conjunction to the corresponding character. It was really fun to do!

I used to post about my monthly reads and I miss doing that! Instead of rating them, I’d rather just say what book(s) stood out to me. This month, it was definitely A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping. I love cozy fantasy, and it’s a space I’m writing in as well. I found myself mulling over how it compared to her other cozy fantasy book, which I really enjoyed.

I also plan on reading more backlist books because they are just as good and important as new releases!

All joking aside, I’m so grateful to have @cournmuffin in my life. We met 8 years ago (wait, what?) at work and became besties in about 10 seconds. We only worked together for two years before moving to different schools, but we talked on every morning on the phone during our commute… sometimes even after school too. Court, you’re one of the most generous, warm, creative, and hilarious people I know. Don’t believe me? The book she bought me to bedazzle was one of my favorites in high school… and she annotated it for me. I’m so happy I got to see you once this year (😭).

Not pictured: our kids, the tie dye projects, our personal pizzas, and a picture of the two of us because we never remember to do that 😅
