“Reading is like breathing in;
writing is like breathing out.”
~Pam Allyn
I’m a writer.
Middle grade. Young adult. Adult. Creative nonfiction. And above all, fantasy. I think life is better with magic, so no matter what genre or character, my stories are heartfelt, enchanting, and explore who we are vs. who we want to be.
I’m a teacher.
I taught middle school English for nine years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. What I loved teaching most was writing. Everyone writes differently, and writing alongside of my students helped me better understand my own process–as well as how unique the art of writing actually is. Even though I’m not in a classroom, I believe in learning from others and working in a community. I participate in two writing critique groups and am constantly bouncing ideas around with my writing friends. Spoiler alert: each and every one of them has made me a better writer.
I’m a dreamer–and a do-er.
It’s not enough to dream. You’ve got to do something about it. I’m constantly searching for experiences to make me a better writer and to learn more about the craft. Outside of writing, I’m constantly looking for the adventures in the day-to-day (like discovering the local flower farm or taking my daughter to the zoo). It’s not enough to dream–you’ve got to make it happen.
If you’re interested in monthly updates and learning what I’ve learned, sign up for my newsletter!
While you can find event reviews and my short work publications here, each month I send out a quick update about my project progress, what I’ve learned about writing, my recent writing adventures, and other writing resources.
I’ll never share your contact information, and I’ll never spam you. Unless I have groundbreaking writing news, you’ll never hear from me more than once a month.
